The First Few Days Home

The first few days at home were absolutely wonderful and trying all in the same breath!  We had many wonderful friends and family come to see Caleigh (some for the second time and some for the first time)!  It was amazing to see how many people love my little family!  I know that no matter what happens Caleigh will be surround by people who love her!  The hard part was recovering from surgey, little sleep, adjusting to our precious gift and breastfeeding.  I definitely wouldn't change a moment of pain, tiresome or hardship for our precious girl! She is such a blessing!!!  :)
Here are a few pictures from the first few days:

Coming Home

We were so grateful to get the okay from both doctors to come home that Friday!  I was so tired of being in a hospital bed and room all day!  I couldn't take it much longer.  I think even John was ready to head home.  We missed our little guy so much!  I couldn't wait to get home to him and love on him.  Our little family just wasn't complete without Scout.  We got the okay to leave around 11 o'clock and I think I could have ran out the door if I wouldn't have had to be pushed!  I was still in pain and not looking forward to battling the bumps of the road, but anything was better than the hospital bed!  I made an appointment for Caleigh on the next Monday due to a slight case of jaundice and just as we were leaving the doctor's office called and said she wasn't added to the insurance and they no longer accepted the grace period...we were a little annoyed because that meant we had to stop on our way home to fill out the paperwork with our two day old little girl, but I guess it was better than getting home and having to head thirty minutes back in the direction we had just got from.  I'm just thankful that the insurance lady at our business office saw us and didn't head to lunch!  That would have been REALLY bad!

When we got home...Lolli, Aunt Jen, and Scout met us at the car!  Scout was more than excited to finally see us!  (We were just extremely grateful for Brian and Brandi taking care of him while we were gone!)  We came in the house and Scout's nose was going ninety miles a minute and he was absolutely precious with her!  He sniffed and sniffed and finally licked her little toes!  All it took was that and I knew everything was going to just find with him!

Pops and Uncle Bubba brought home lunch!  The Papa John's pizza was the most amazing thing I had ever eaten!  It tasted so wonderful!!  :)  I was a happy camper!!

The First Couple of Days

The first couple of days were definitely a big change...sleep deprivation to struggles with feeding to not being able to move very well after surgery.  Thank God for John!  I didn't change a single diaper until the last day in the hospital.  I made myself get up and walk, so that I could come home quicker!  I hated being in the hospital...it just wasn't home!  We had many different visitors and we were so blessed for them to come!

The Time Came

Many are unaware of my wonderful story of the night before Caleigh came into our lives...so here you go!  :)

I went to the doctor on Monday, August 15th and the doctor told me I hadn't change or progressed any...yes, I was VERY bummed!  But we agreed that if I hadn't gone into labor by Friday morning, I was going to be induced!  I headed home for the evening and to prepare for another day of staff development meetings.  On Tuesday, I woke up around 2 AM with bad back pains, but just thought I had slept wrong.  I went to work and around noon started having contractions and by 2 I could hardly stand during them.  I went into my partners classroom and she was like are you okay?  Before I knew it, I had four other wonderful ladies in the room telling me I needed to go to the hospital.  I was scared and didn't want to go and be turned away again, so I told them I was going to wait, but my partner grabbed my phone and started searching for John's number to call him and tell him I needed to go to the doctor.  Well...she couldn't find him because he isn't in my phone as John, but as Ace In Hole (that's another story for another time!)...so she finally figured it out and called him and told him to come, but I told him I was going to wait and I'd call him later.  I went back in my room and started working again and before I knew it, I looked up and they had all followed me into my room.  We were laughing and joking until I realized how close the contractions were.  I called John back and he said he was already on his way.  As we waited in the cafeteria for John, my principal came in and couldn't believe she was the last one to know!  John came to school and picked me up and we headed to the hospital.  After sitting in triage for approximately 4 hours, they sent me home.  I was completely devastated and upset.  John's parents rented us a hotel room just in case something happened that night because we live 45 minutes from the hospital.  So, they checked us in and I knew I needed to eat (although I didn't want to).  We decided to go to Cheesecake Factory because that is where we went on our first date.  We shared Fried Mac and Cheese and Orange Chicken (I was hoping the spicy would help!).  I ate my last bite and felt the sudden urge of needing to use the restroom, so I got up to go. I took a couple of steps and ended up running to the bathroom because my water broke in the middle of the restaurant!  Although I was relieved to get the process started, I was DEVASTATED that I had missed getting cheesecake for dessert!  :)  As we headed back to the car, I was so embarrassed because it looked like I had peed in my pants!!! We called the parents and siblings and told them we were headed back to the hospital.  After we got back to the hospital, they checked us in and put us into a room.

After being checked several times, the head nurse came in and asked if I wanted an epidural, but I said I didn't know and to give me a couple minutes because she sprung it on me and the contractions weren't bad.  After talking it over with John, I decided to go ahead and get it!  My doctor called and told them to start pitocin and he was headed to the hospital even though he wasn't on call.  I told them I didn't want to start the pitocin until my parents were there and thank God I did!  After being checked SIX times in twenty-four hours, the head nurse checked me and realized our little Tadpole was breech!  We waited for a sonogram and sure enough...she was!  I never really cared about having to have a c-section (because I'm a c-section baby) until the moment they said it!  I was just emotional and physically exhausted and this added one more thing to that!  But within forty-five minutes, our precious little angel was out!  I'll never forget the moment the doctor told us it was a girl...I was teary eyed!

Caleigh weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and was 19 3/4.  The craziest thing about it is that Caleigh Rose was born on her due date...by 2 hours and 36 minutes!! :)

Ten Months of Pregnancy

Well...I had a fairly easy pregnancy and cannot complain one bit! The summer months were pretty brutal with temperatures in the 100's for the majority of the time, but luckily I didn't have to go anywhere or do anything! Scout an I walked just about every day during the week to keep me active and not lazy! It helped with the weight gain until the last month and then I lost my self-control...those ice cream snickers bars were just too yummy and I couldn't resist!

John and I went to Galveston to celebrate our Anni-Moon (anniversary and baby moon) and we had a great time! We ate ice cream, had an awesome massage, toured Bishop's Palace, walked The Strand (went to the candy factory of course!) and just relaxed! It was definitely a needed trip!!!

We had two showers and they were amazing! I...I mean we have some amazing friends and family! We definitely felt the love from those closest to us! :) We received some amazing gifts for the little one and books galore! Can I mentioned we've read everyone to her already!!! :)

During the two sonograms, we were anxious and hoping there wouldn't be a slip up and they show/tell us what the sex of the baby was. We were so relived to see our little bleasing's heart beat and features each time!! We went in complaining about the cost of it to saying this was the best money we'd ever spent (little did we know the hospital bill was the best!!). We saw a little bottom and chubby cheeks and it constantly reminded me of her Pops! If you don't know the mooning story...it won't make sense! It was such a relief to count ten fingers and ten toes!!!! In the end, we didn't take our last opportunity to find out the sex and there were no slip-ups! We were happy about that, but I think we were the only two that were!

As the school year quickly approached, panic set in because I couldn't setup my classroom by myself! A wonderful friend, Carly, came to the rescue!!! She graciously helped me move furniture and hang things on the wall! Man I wouldn't have made it without her! E got my room setup in ONE day!!! Normally it takes me weeks! So I told Carly she must come every year to help! :). Getting that accomplished was such a stress relief!!

We continued to wonder how Scout would handle the new addition to our family! Mainly because he is used to being our little baby and now it was time for him to become a big brother!

We anxiously, nervously, and impatiently (well I was the last one) for our little tadpole to arrive!!

New Traditions

So as we start our new family, there is a tradition that I would like to start.  I cannot take credit for this amazing idea (I stole it from my Aunt Sheri)!!!  I am going to get a box and place memories from the year in it...for example...plane tickets, dinner receipts, cards, sonograms, letters, newspaper clippings, etc...and on New Year's Eve take it down and reminisce on the year and all of the wonderful memories (and unfortunately the not so great ones) of the year!  Just to take in the year one more time before it is time to move on!  I was so excited about this, which I cannot believe I had never heard of this tradition of my aunt's in 27 years, that I wanted to immediately go to the craft store and find a box to decorate!  I have failed to find my box yet, but with John's birthday coming up...I figure I need to before too long!  So, my goal for tomorrow, other than getting the house cleaned, is to go to the store and get a box!  Hopefully it will happen!
